Limelight
Wine Packaging Design | Creative Concept | Illustration
How do you give terroir a glow consumers can feel?
How do you turn soil into a story?
The wines in this range are from the region of Robertson, an area prized for its ideal vine growing conditions and perfect limestone soils. Fascinating, but not particularly compelling for the average wine drinker. But what if soil science could speak the language of the senses? We needed to create a relatable and emotionally sensorial angle for the consumer, and this was provided by the alluring way in which Limestone soils respond in low light.

“In the light of the stars and the full moon,
limestone soils shimmer with a pale light, called Limelight.”
To set the dusky tone, we selected a deep velvety colour-palette – midnight blue for the reds, forest green (whites) and powdery teal for the rosé. The tone-on-tone foreground illustration, with its large vine leaves, leads down a winding road through the vineyards towards the Cape Dutch farmhouse, mysterious in the distance.
By the pale silvery light of the moon, the shadowy soil between the vines becomes an iridescent pathway to the stars. An insignificant little moth is transformed into a creature of ethereal luminosity.
Nothing is as it seems by day. Can a wine’s soul be seen in the moonlight?

We designed for both the eye and the hand.
Tactile elements and premium gold accents on the capsule elevate the design, creating a sensorial experience, while mirroring the detailed craftsmanship behind both winemaking and artistic expression.

The silver foil works hard for the concept; mysterious, pale and shining against the dark backdrop.
The noctilucent transformation is bought to life through print with the use of glow-in-the-dark ink. In the hand, the pack rewards with a tactile experience, the smooth moon, raised pinprick stars, deeply textured limestone soils and the delicately raised contours of the moth.
